Tempur Pedic Deluxe Mattress – A Negative Review

For my entire adult life, I had dreamed about buying a Tempur Pedic Swedish mattress set. I had slept on one in my early 20s and I instantly fell in love. The bed was the perfect combination of firm goodness and moldable memory foam, and I slept harder during that half-hour nap than I had in my entire life. If you want to know what I am talking about then you can Check guides here and see for yourself how effective Tempur Pedic Swedish mattress set is.

Fast forward to ten years later, I finally had saved up enough money for my very own Tempur Pedic bed. After visiting a store, I decided on The Deluxe Bed by Tempur Pedic. It felt like pure heaven, just how I had remembered it. I wound up ordering the bed online at laweekly because they were offering no interest for a full year. They delivered it, set it up, and the rest is a very disappointing history.

When you first get your Tempur Pedic bed, no matter which type you buy, it will smell horrible, and it will be as hard as a rock. This firmness might be fine for some people but it was pure agony for me for about the first week. As soon as I laid down, every muscle in my back cramped up. I have a history of muscle spasms in my back, but this was something totally different. Every night for the first week, I would lay in sheer agony trying desperately to fall asleep, knowing that one day my bed would be as soft as the display models in the store.

The smell of the Tempur material went away before the firmness did, but finally one day, within that first month, I was finally able to lie down and not be in pain. My husband thought it might have had something to do with my old mattress, and sleeping in messed-up positions for so many years. That could very well be the case.

Now, exactly one year later as I pay off my bill before the interest hits, I can’t help but wish I had spent that $3,800 towards one of those Comfort Select air mattresses.

While the initial severe cramping went away, my back pain – the reason I bought this bed in the first place, never went away. I still toss and turn at night trying to get comfortable. I have to lie at almost a 90-degree angle to comfortably fall asleep.

I have bursitis in both of my hip joints and have swelling in both of my sacroiliac joints in my lower back, and I still feel pain and pressure on those spots when I lay on my side or my back. I don’t mind the sinking feeling of the Tempur material, but in the middle of the night when I go to flip, I have to use a lot of muscle and effort to climb out of the hole I made, which causes extreme back pain most of the time.

Lastly, I’ve been in bed more than usual this year due to several surgeries, and because of this extra time spent in bed, there’s actually a small dent on my side of the bed where I lay. I didn’t think this was supposed to happen with a Tempur Pedic mattress!

I don’t think trading this model in for a firmer or softer version would help. Anything firmer and my pressure points would hurt more often. Anything softer would be more of the same because this Deluxe mattress is pretty soft already. Next time, I’m going for a Select Comfort bed instead.

I highly suggest testing this bed out before you commit to it. Take advantage of the Tempur Pedic 3 month in-home trial before you spend your hard-earned money. If you don’t like the bed, you will only have to pay for shipping. I kept mind because I had faith that things would get better. In reality, the bed was fully broken in by the second month, but I kept it anyway.
